In addition to the 23 hospital corporations that make up the HDIRS membership, our partners include private sector vendors and government organizations.

eHealth Ontario

eHealth Ontario has provided HDIRS with incredible support. HDIRS works with e-Health as one of the DIR organizations within the diagnostic imaging/picture archiving communications system (DI/PACS) program. This initiative involves the establishment of common repositories for diagnostic imaging and information that can be shared across the healthcare system.

As a key component in creating an electronic health record, HDIRS has received funding from eHealth Ontario as well as technical support as the provider of wide area network (WAN) services through the provincial ONE Network.

HDIRS is contributing to Ontario’s goal of having 100% of hospital images, taken in the delivery of hospital-based health care, digitally stored and shareable among health care providers.

Canada Health Infoway

Infoway is a national organization committed to each and every Canadian having an electronic health record (EHR). EHRs will contain important information about an individual’s health history including immunizations, allergies, medication, X-rays, hospital stays, etc. Whether a patient is at an emergency room in Banff or a general practitioner’s office in Lindsay, their EHR will be available to the clinician providing care – when it matters the most.

Creating a pan-Canadian EHR system is an ambitious project considering there are over 400,000 healthcare providers in the country and numerous health facilities, including over 700 hospitals.

To assist this goal, Infoway strategically invests in projects that will make the EHR a reality.
HDIRS is one of hundreds of projects that have been supported by Infoway. HDIRS receives project funding largely because it is a collaboration that will allow for sharing of costs, personnel, hardware and patient information between clinicians situated in different facilities and often different communities.
